Burnett salutes improving team

Dagenham boss Wayne Burnett praised his side after an impressive 3-2 win at Morecambe continued their resurgence in League Two.

The visitors went ahead after just 17 seconds when Luke Howell scored from the edge of the area. Andy Fleming levelled in the 24th minute for the Shrimps, who were then undone twice in quick succession after the break with Ayo Obileye scoring from close range after a defensive mix-up and veteran Jamie Cureton also scoring from close range. Morecambe substitute Jack Redshaw pulled one back in the third minute of injury time, but Dagenham held on for the three points. The improving Daggers have now lost just once in their last nine games much to the delight of Burnett. He said: "It was a fantastic performance and a great three points. "Morecambe are a good side and their home form is excellent and not a lot of teams will win here, so I'm delighted with the result. "To score a goal after just 17 seconds was a huge bonus and although Morecambe came back into it we never panicked and the two early goals we scored in the second half gave us the perfect platform to go on and win the game. "They had a few half chances, but overall we looked solid and always looked like we could get something on the break and in truth could have scored more. "The game-plan worked well and hopefully we can keep this run going." Morecambe boss Jim Bentley found it hard to contain his anger at his side's defending, especially the first goal of the game after 17 seconds. He said: "It is the second time in three games that we have conceded in the first 30 seconds of a match and that is unacceptable, you just can't start games like that because you give the opposition a shot in the arm. "We had to change our shape really early as a result, but we got a grip on the game and got our way back into it and I thought we would go from there. "But despite having a real go at them at half-time we conceded a joke of a second and were up against it again. "After Saturday's results I thought we had a real chance to getting something from the game to put us in among the play-off contenders again, but we were miles off it. "You can't defend at any level like we did and I am so frustrated it is untrue because we are better than what we showed."
