Currie relief after Dagenham win

Assistant manager Darren Currie was relieved to see Dagenham ease the pressure with a 2-0 win at Bury.

Half-time substitute Alex Jakubiak broke the deadlock in the 55th minute before veteran Jamie Cureton sealed victory. That made it back-to-back wins for the Daggers, which have pushed them up to 20th in League Two. "We've come under fire recently but it's a results business," said Currie. "On the back of the disappointing result at Southport (in the FA Cup), we've won two games scoring six goals so everyone's happy. "We started brightly but Bury are a good side, they pinned us back a bit and they probably had the better of the first half. "But we're away from home, against a team that had been going well. The chances will be few and far between so when they come along you have to make them count and we did that. "Ayo Obileye's a giant, he headed the free-kick down for the first goal, and Alex popped up in the right area. "The wing-backs put in a tireless shift, we had to sit in and defend our lead, and the second goal was good timing. "The finish was perfect but we've come to expect that from Jamie Cureton." There was a subdued atmosphere at the JD Stadium after Bury's 3-1 defeat by Newport last week and the hosts did see Danny Nardiello head against the Daggers bar just after half-time while Craig Jones glanced a Nicky Adams free-kick over. Nathan Cameron headed against a post late on but they slipped to eighth after their fourth straight defeat. "It was possibly a case of not taking our chances but I still think our level of quality was poor in terms of creating chances," said manager David Flitcroft. "On the final ball we were taking the wrong decision and it's cost us of late, not finishing teams off when we're on top. "Teams are coming here and sitting in, and we're trying to create chances. But there's trying and there's doing - and we've got to get back to doing. "Pressure's been created by the expectation and people are snatching at things that normally come naturally to them. It's become a bit tense and everyone's feeling it. "We still created enough but they had two chances and scored them. "Their first goal we didn't track the second run and Jamie Cureton spun four of our players for the second. "We're in transition in terms of loan signings and I've got to put a synergy into this team."
