Dagenham boss Wayne Burnett was disappointed that his key players could not make the most of their chances in their 0-0 with Southport

Dagenham boss Wayne Burnett was disappointed that his key players could not make the most of the positions they found themselves in. Neither side could find the net at Victoria Road, with Jamie Cureton wasteful on numerous occasions for the hosts. He said: "People would be expecting us to be beating Southport and I think we have had 15 shots at their goal and not managed to score any of them. "We just lacked a little bit of quality in front of goal. Key players, that you can usually rely on, just rushed it and it didn't quite work out how we thought it would. "There was no fluidity or fluency about our game and it took a while, but once we started moving the ball a bit quicker in the second half we got into better positions; but once we got into those positions we didn't really capitalise. "When you haven't won games at home for a long period of time sometimes you can feel a little bit nervous, but I don't feel that was the case; I just think we lacked a little bit of quality, certainly around their box and in the final third." Southport manager Gary Brabin was pleased with the performance his team put in against Dagenham as they held them to a replay in the first round of the FA Cup. Richard Brodie was a constant threat for the Vanarama Conference outfit and Brabin was pleased to see his players do enough to force a replay at their home. "I thought it was a really good, professional performance," said the Southport manager. "I think the things we have worked on since I have been at the club were evident and we are pleased with that and I think the lads are pleased with that. "It will give them more belief going forward. I thought it was a good 90-minute performance and the longer the game went on we felt we could get the winner. "We created chances, worked hard, were disciplined and it was a really good, thorough performance. "I know Dagenham haven't had the best of time of late but they have some good players and are a good team. "That was a good test and we are really pleased; it was a pity we couldn't finish it off, but it is a replay and another chance and another crack at it."
