York have confirmed that striker Michael Coulson has signed a new two-year deal with the club.

Coulson, whose free-kick in the home win against Newport last month sealed the Minstermen's play-off place, turned in a string of impressive displays during the second half of the season after forcing his way back into the starting line-up. "I'm delighted to have re-signed for the club," the 26-year-old told the club's official website. "I think my hard work over the season has paid off and all I wanted to do is stay at York. I can't wait to get started again in pre-season." He made 36 appearances, scoring seven goals, as Nigel Worthington's side finished the campaign in the final play-off spot before losing 1-0 on aggregate to Fleetwood in the semi-finals. Coulson started out at Scarborough and after moving to Barnsley suffered a series of career-threatening knee injuries that put paid to his chances at Oakwell. He joined York in June 2012 after a spell at Grimsby, but missed most of the club's first season back in the Football League due to another cruciate ligament injury.
