Swansea youngster Ben Davies has signed a new two-year contract with the Premier League club.

The 19-year-old left-back is yet to make his debut for the Swans but has been a regular in the reserve team and has been rewarded with an extension to his deal.

"I'm absolutely delighted," the Neath-born defender told the club's official website.

"I was only expecting a year's contract if I was to get an extension, but when I found out I was getting two years I was over the moon.

"I feel as though I've definitely improved over the last year and it's great to be around this squad because they are all great players and I can learn a lot from them."

Incredible

Davies is training with the first-team squad under new boss Michael Laudrup and admits it is amazing to be coached by one of football's iconic players.

"The new manager has been great," he added.

"He's great to work with but the first few days of pre-season have been tough.

"It's incredible to have a name like that around the club. It gives everyone a great buzz and all the players can learn from him."

Davies also revealed that the presence of Joe Allen and Jazz Richards in the Swansea first team acts an inspiration as he attempts to force his way into the reckoning.

"My ultimate aim is to break into the first team but that's going to take a lot of hard work," he said.

"It's great to have players like Joe and Jazz that have come through the ranks and up into the first team and it is a good incentive for us young lads in the squad."
