Huddersfield have rewarded Irish youngster Ronan Coughlan with a long-term contract that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2017.

The 18-year-old former Limerick striker has been in fine form for Town's development sides, and he scored his first goal at Under-21s level against Sheffield United on Monday.

Academy manager Mark Lillis said on the club's official website: "It's fantastic news for the club and for Ronan that he's committed his future to Huddersfield Town.

"He was identified via our scouting network and I am really pleased that the club have now moved quickly to reward him following the fine start he has made to life at Huddersfield Town.

"He's an exciting talent and he's performed very well for our teams; both the Under-18s and during his four substitute appearances for the Under-21s.

"However, this contract doesn't change anything in terms of Ronan's development. He must continue to put in the hard work day in, day out in training, working with all of the coaches and learning from everyone around him, in order to fulfil his undoubted potential."
