Heerenveen claim they have been approached by Middlesbrough over winger Yanic Wildschut.

The 22-year-old is a product of Ajax's academy but he never played for the Amsterdam giants, instead making his professional debut for FC Zwolle before joining VVV Venlo, who Heerenveen signed him from.

Wildschut joined Heerenveen last summer, but spent the back end of the campaign on loan at ADO Den Haag.

Now Boro are said to be showing an interest in Wildschut, who can play on either flank, but Heerenveen insist they want him to stay.

Hans Vonk, technical manager of Heerenveen, told Dutch Fox Sports: "It is right they [Middlesbrough] contacted us, but we want to keep Yanic on board."
