Gomis is out of contract at the end of the season but has refused to move unless the situation is right for him.
Lyon had banished him to the reserves last summer, but he has returned to the first-team during the season and has done well.
But Aulas admits he does not want to see the player leaving for free in the summer.
He told L'Equipe: "It is up to him to make a decision, but I would like it to be sorted out with a contract extension or a departure in January.
"A departure as free agent in June would be a failure."
Gourcuff's situation is that he has rejected a new contract with the club and he is far from happy that he is not a regular starter under Remi Garde.
"It is not favourable to the club nor to him, he wants to play and he doesn't play a lot," Aulas added.
"That situation penalises the club on an economical level, and I am sensitive to the fact he cost us a lot of money.
"We offered him a new deal at a more coherent cost. We were quite close but we didn't reach an agreement so far.
"If the situation remains the same for one year and a half, it would be a bad deal for Lyon."
