Scunthorpe have extended defender Cliff Byrne's loan spell from League One outfit Oldham until December 22.

The Irishman, 31, joined from Oldham in September and has made five appearances for Brian Laws' side. Byrne had spent nearly 10 years with Scunthorpe before his release at the end of last season. He has also featured for Oldham on three occasions this term. Laws told the club's official website: "For Cliff that recent postponement against York City has come as a blessing for him. "I would not say it did for us but it allowed us to extend his loan and he is absolutely delighted. "That will give us the opportunity to extend his current deal by a further two weeks. "We have taken advantage of the system and the fact we did not have a game over that weekend which has allowed us to do that. "It was a deal that suited both parties."
