Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis has confirmed Alan Martin has been offered a new contract after establishing himself as the club's first-choice goalkeeper.
Martin joined Crewe in 2011, but only made his debut for the club on the opening day of this season and he has since started every match.
He has grasped his chance after replacing Steve Phillips and Davis believes the 23-year-old deserves the chance to stay at Gresty Road beyond January.
"I have spoken to Alan and we have made him offer and he is thinking it over," Davis told the club's official website.
"That is fine and we hope he will stay and continues doing what he is doing. I haven't spoken to him again about it since then.
"We have been delighted with him. He has come in because Steve has been injured and done very well for us. He has certainly taken his opportunity and he has consistently made good saves in the games.
"Al is sharp in his focus and he knows he has to keep playing well to keep his place. There are two very good goalkeepers challenging for the one place."
