Marseille striker Jordan Ayew has revealed that he came close to leaving the club after the arrival of coach Elie Baup.

The striker scored just seven goals last season for L'OM, but has already matched that total this season and has undergone something of a renaissance at the Stade Velodrome.

Ayew explained that he almost joined Nice, and that there was also interest from an unnamed English club.

"Did I meet Elie Baup in August to leave?" Ayew told L'Equipe.

"I was frank. Everyone knew the situation, the coach and the chairman.

"The team was playing well. It was logical there was no position for me in the starting XI.

"The officials wanted me to stay and asked me to be patient. I am very happy to be at L'OM. I try to make efforts to channel my passion."
