Dickov aiming to keep Baxter

Oldham manager Paul Dickov has vowed to do all he can to keep hold of striker Jose Baxter, whose contract expires in January.

The 20-year-old ex-Everton starlet - who refused a new deal at Goodison Park in order to pursue first-team football - is being tracked by a host of clubs. Baxter did his reputation no harm at all with the Latics' second goal in their 2-0 win over Leyton Orient, his third of the season, but Dickov is keen to keep hold of his services. "Jose is just a very good footballer. He's top class," Dickov said. "People are bound to be looking at him because of the quality he has - and you could see that in the goal he scored - but he loves it here and we'll do everything we can to keep him. "We've got some very good players here, like Jose, Matt Derbyshire, Lee Croft and Cristian Montano. "As a team we are doing really well at the moment, but three weeks ago people had us down for relegation so we have to keep a lid on things."
