Paris Saint Germain boss Carlo Ancelotti has hinted he is ready to make a move for Roma's Daniele De Rossi in January.
De Rossi's future in the Italian capital has been the subject of fresh speculation following reports of a bust-up between the midfielder and club officials.
Manchester City were strongly linked with a move for the Italy international during the summer transfer window and they are thought to be keeping tabs on his situation at the Stadio Olimpico.
However, they could face competition from big-spending PSG with Ancelotti a huge admirer of his fellow countryman.
"De Rossi is a great player, I was surprised that he did not play the last game, but I think it was a situation of the moment," Ancelotti told Radio Monte Carlo.
"He is a great midfielder so it is normal that PSG are linked because we are one of the few teams than can spend.
"But for now the market is closed. We can talk again in January."
Meanwhile, Ancelotti has played down talk linking Zlatan Ibrahimovic with a move back to AC Milan after the Swede refused to rule out returning to the Rossoneri in the future.
"Ibrahimovic? It's normal that one who has been to AC Milan would speak well about AC Milan saying he was fine there," added Ancelotti.
"I could say the same thing, but that does not mean that Ibra wants to return there.
"I think Ibrahimovic is happy to be here because there is an important project, then anyone knows the future."
