Davis turns down striker move

Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis has turned down the offer of acquiring a Championship striker on a loan deal.

The Alex have welcomed back Mathias Pogba to full training this week, while Arsenal loannee Chuks Aneke is nearing his return following suspension, causing Davis to decide to stick with his existing strike options. "Our squad has been a little threadbare but I wanted to give our own players a chance. It was a young bench on Saturday and they had not played many games," he told the club's official website. "I could do with someone I could look to bring on to change it, the likes of Pogs and Chuks will allow us to do that. They are coming back and will give us more options. "I've been offered a couple of players, one of which would be of great interest. He is a forward, but I can't guarantee him playing time because we'll soon have all our main strikers available. "I'm sure someone will take him because he is from a good Championship club where he has fallen out of favour. We'll look out to see what his future holds, he is someone we liked previously but at the moment we don't need him."
