Sky Sports understands that Dundee United midfielder Gary Mackay-Steven is the subject of late interest from a Championship club.

The 22-year-old winger has made rapid progress over the past 12 months.

He was taken to Tannadice in July 2011, making the step up into the Scottish Premier League from Airdrie.

Mackay-Steven made 31 top-flight appearances during his debut campaign and netted five goals in all competitions.

His efforts were rewarded in February 2012 when he was drafted into the Scotland U21 squad.

His ongoing development has not gone unnoticed, and clubs in England have identified him as a potential new recruit.

It is believed that one side from the second tier of English football have launched a bid to lure Mackay-Steven away from the SPL before the summer transfer window slams shut.
