Marseille have confirmed the arrival of QPR outcast Joey Barton depends on Stephane Mbia completing his switch the other way.
Barton has reportedly passed a medical with the Ligue 1 club and took part in a light training session with the rest of their squad on Friday morning.
The 29-year-old midfielder has been trying to tie up a move to the south of France since being told he was no longer part of Hoops boss Mark Hughes' plans.
He was stripped of the captaincy and his squad number by Hughes after receiving a 12-game ban for his dismissal and subsequent violent conduct in the final game of last season at former club Manchester City.
"The two clubs have reached an agreement," said Marseille sporting director Jose Anigo. "Mbia still has to find one with QPR. Then Joey will be here.
"Joey's arrival is linked to Mbia's move to QPR. It will be a transfer for Mbia and a loan for Joey.
"There are quite good chances that the deal will be completed. But it's not done yet."
Barton, speaking on his Twitter account on Friday afternoon, added: "Hopefully, once the ink is dry, I can immerse myself in the culture, learn the language and just play football. That is my dream..."
