Sky Sports understands that Birmingham are keen on re-signing striker DJ Campbell from QPR.
Campbell only moved to Loftus Road last summer from Blackpool on a two-year deal but has seen further new arrivals push him down the pecking order.
With Hoops boss Mark Hughes keen to reduce the size of their squad, Campbell is seen as one of those who are surplus to requirements.
A number of Championship clubs have been linked with a move for the 30-year-old, including Watford, Bristol City and former club Blackpool
Earlier this week Huddersfield Town appeared to be in pole position as they seek a replacement for Blackburn-bound Jordan Rhodes.
However, it is another one of his old sides Birmingham, who are understood to be keen on adding the forward to their squad.
With Nikola Zigic poised to complete a move to Real Mallorca, Blues boss Lee Clark appears to be acting quickly in order to replace the tall Serbian.
