Colin Nish will not be returning to Kilmarnock during this transfer window, according to manager Kenny Shiels.
The Killie boss was hopeful of tying down a deal to secure the striker on loan from Hartlepool, but has now conceded defeat.
Shiels had sought to bring in the 31-year-old as a replacement for Paul Heffernan, who is out for 10 weeks with a broken collarbone.
William Gros and Rory Boulding are currently his only fit forwards.
Nish scored 46 goals in 161 games for Kilmarnock between 2003 and 2008, but Shiels was unable to bring the striker back to Rugby Park.
Shiels said: "We weren't able to get Colin. It was just outside our remit - but we'll maybe revisit it in January."
