Sky Sports understands James Harper is training with Doncaster Rovers ahead of a possible move to the club.
Harper is available on a free transfer after leaving Hull City earlier this summer.
The 31-year-old has been a long-term target for Rovers boss Dean Saunders as he looks to bolster his squad ahead of the new season.
Harper has now linked up with Saunders' squad for pre-season training and he could make the move to the Keepmoat Stadium.
A number of clubs are thought to be monitoring Harper's situation but Doncaster are in pole position to land the midfielder.
