Gulls boss checks out trio

Martin Ling ran the rule over three trialists as Torquay continued their new season preparations with a 5-0 win over Bideford.

The players are former Swindon defender Jerel Ifil, George Artemi and Carl Baker. Torquay were 4-0 up at half-time thanks to goals from Ian Morris, including a 25-yard screamer, while Ryan Jarvis and Brian Saah also got on the scoresheet before the break. Rene Howe completed the scoring in the second half and Ling was happy with the performances of all three trialists. He told the club's official website: "The three trialists all did the job required. Jerel played the full 90 minutes because he's not had a lot of football recently and the other two played 45 minutes each. They were all part of a good team unit on the night."
