Vale boss casts eye over duo

Port Vale boss Micky Adams gave two trialists the chance to impress in the friendly at Nantwich on Friday evening.

One of those players, Tadhg Purcell, scored the only goal of the game deep into injury time. Much-travelled striker Darren Byfield, who has been training with the club, also played the first 45 minutes. Adams told the Sentinel: "Darren is on trial with us, and the only way I can make a decision on him is if he plays games. "He's an experienced player who knows where the back of the net is but we haven't made any decisions yet." Irish striker Purcell played the second half, and stepped up to stroke home a penalty with the last kick of the game after Louis Dodds was pushed over in the area.
