Magpies midfielder calls on board to keep leading lights

Yohan Cabaye has urged the Newcastle United board to 'do the right thing' and fend off any approaches for the club's top talents. The Magpies have recruited well in recent years, with a fifth-place finish in 2011/12 just reward for the hard work they have put in identifying transfer targets. Their success has, however, attracted unwanted attention from Premier League, and European, rivals. The likes of Cabaye and strike duo Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse are reported to be attracting admiring glances from afar.

Important

Newcastle are understandably reluctant to start dismantling a side which has taken a long time to build, and Cabaye has called on owner Mike Ashley to ensure that their efforts do not go to waste. "Demba scored so many goals for us so it's going to be important to keep him - and keep all the big players," said the France international. "I hope the board are going to do the right things to keep them. "I don't know if we can go higher than last season, but we have to keep doing the right thing."
