Hartlepool United have bolstered their midfield with the acquisition of midfielder Simon Walton following his release from Plymouth Argyle.

The 24-year-old becomes Pools' second signing of the summer, joining Jonathan Franks in making Victoria Park his new home. Walton, who began his career with hometown club Leeds, was made captain of Argyle last term and ended the year as their top scorer with eight goals. Having made 66 appearances for the Pilgrims, Walton admits his move to Pools was motivated by his desire to be nearer to his family. "I am going to be upset to leave - there's no getting away from the fact - but I am taking a step forward in my life and a step up," he told Argyle's official website. "It's a club going places. In a way, I'm a bit sad I'm not going to be part of it, but I have my own bright future to look to now." Manager Carl Fletcher added: "We are disappointed to see him go and we wish him all the best for the future."
