Scottish defender joins Championship new-boys on free transfer

Former Dundee United defender Paul Dixon has agreed to join Huddersfield Town on a three-year deal, the club have confirmed. Sky Sports reported last week the Terriers, promoted to the Championship for this season, had entered the race to sign the left-back. The club have now confirmed the signing of former Scotland Under 21 international Dixon on a free transfer, with his contract set to begin on July 1st. The 25-year-old departed Dundee United at the end of last season upon the completion of his deal, having spent four years with the Terrors, notching up 145 appearances. Cardiff and Leicester had been linked with the defender and Terriers boss Simon Grayson was delighted to beat off competition to secure his signature.

Experience

The manager told the club's official website: "Paul turned down a number of other Championship clubs to join us, which I believe speaks volumes about the football club. "He is a left-back with lots of games behind him for both Dundee and Dundee United who also has international experience with Scotland." Grayson added: "He will be a good addition to our squad for the upcoming season and many beyond." More new faces are expected to join Dixon at the Galpharm Stadium as Huddersfield prepare for life in the second tier, with Grayson revealing discussions are ongoing with several players. He added: "On the transfer front matters are progressing nicely; talks are ongoing with a number of targets so we are pleased and will continue to work hard to secure them."
