Midfielder agrees Oakwell switch

Jacob Mellis has penned a two-year deal with Championship side Barnsley, Sky Sports can confirm. The 21-year-old midfielder arrives on a free transfer after departing Premier League giants Chelsea in the summer. Mellis spent the latter part of last year on loan at Barnsley and now Keith Hill has moved to bring him back to the club. Mellis began his career with Sheffield United as a youngster before being spotted by Chelsea and moving to Stamford Bridge for £1million - aged just 17. He failed to make a breakthrough at Chelsea, playing just one first-team in the UEFA Champions League. He also spent time on loan at Southampton, prior to his time with Barnsley. Meanwhile, Barnsley are hopeful of concluding a deal for Mido later this week. The Egyptian was due for a medical on Monday - as revealed by Sky Sports - but that is now due on Thursday, after which point he is expected to put pen-to-paper.
