Defender pens new one-year deal

Watford defender Martin Taylor has signed a new one-year contract with the Championship club. The towering centre-back was due to see his two-and-a-half year deal expire at Vicarage Road this summer, but he will now remain until at least the end of next season. Taylor only managed 22 appearances this term due to injury, sitting out between mid-October and early March following a dislocated collarbone and then a broken toe. But he proved his worth to the Hornets towards the end of the campaign and convinced boss Sean Dyche to offer him a new deal. Dyche told the club's official website: "It's good news that we're able to have Martin among our plans for next season. "Along with a number of others, he's played an important role in our group since he joined the club." Taylor arrived from Birmingham in January 2010 and has so far made a total of 90 appearances.
