AFC Wimbledon have decided to release defender Sam Hatton before the start of the new season.

After discussions with the 24-year-old right-back, the Dons have opted not to extend his contract, meaning his five-year spell at Kingsmeadow is over. Manager Terry Brown told the club's official website: "Sam was one of my first signings when I took over after a recommendation from (former player) Jason Goodliffe. "He has been a fantastic servant to the club. He was instrumental in taking us from the Ryman League to the Football League and I have no doubt that he will continue to have a successful career in football. "Releasing Sam was definitely one of the hardest decisions I have had to make as a manager." Hatton made over 200 appearances for the Dons after joining from Stevenage in 2007.
