Argentine won't accept loan move

Mauro Zarate looks set to stay in Italy despite interest from Tottenham Hotspur in taking him on loan. Sky Sports understands that Spurs were very keen on striking a deal for the former Birmingham forward. However, Zarate - currently on loan at Inter Milan from Lazio - was wanted by Spurs, who were also looking at a loan move until the summer, with a view to a permanent deal. Whilst a switch to Spurs is known to have appealed to the 24-year-old, he wanted a permanent deal. Tottenham, though, were unwilling to do business this month on a permanent deal as Lazio would have wanted in excess of £15million. Zarate's British representative Barry McIntosh has revealed that a deal was unlikely. "It does not look like happening," he told Sky Sports. "He is flattered by Spurs' interest and would clearly love to have moved to Tottenham. "But there was no question he would move on loan, he always wanted a permanent switch so at the moment nothing will happen with that."
