Bolton starlet Jack Sampson has completed a double deal after penning a new contract and then agreeing to join Southend United on loan.
18-year-old Sampson has come through the youth ranks at the Reebok Stadium and has been linked with rival Premier League clubs.
But he has now agreed a new 18-month contract and Sky Sports also understands he has followed that up by signing for League Two promotion chasers Southend - who beat a host of clubs from League One and Two to his signature.
Sampson will spend the next month on loan at Roots Hall, with a view to staying for the rest of the season.
Speaking about his contract extension, Sampson said: "I'm delighted that I have signed this new deal and I'm looking forward to my spending my long term future at Bolton.
"I feel like I've matured a lot as a footballer in the last few years and I hope that I can continue progressing as I have done over the recent seasons."
