Defender arrives at Bramall Lane on permanent deal

Skysports.com understands defender Marcus Williams has joined Sheffield United on a free transfer from Reading. The full-back, who recently completed a 12-week loan spell at Bramall Lane, is believed to have penned a two-and-a-half year deal at the South Yorkshire club. Blades boss Danny Wilson confirmed earlier this month he was keen to keep Williams on a permanent basis after the 25-year-old impressed during his loan stint. It appears the deal has now come to fruition, with the Doncaster-born defender a possibility to feature in the team that will travel to Carlisle on Monday. Williams, who failed to establish himself at Reading after joining from boyhood club Scunthorpe in 2010, notched up 14 appearances for the Blades during his time on loan at the League One side. The stopper will provide competition with Lecsinel Jean-Francois at left-back as the Blades push for promotion this season.
