Goalkeeper Johnstone joins Scunthorpe on a month's loan

Scunthorpe United have signed Manchester United's young goalkeeper Sam Johnstone on a month's loan. The 18-year-old has also revealed that he is desperate to gain experience and make an impression at the League One side. The initial deal could be extended when it comes to an end in October. The move comes after the Iron's first choice keeper, Josh Lillis, was ruled out for three months with a knee injury sustained against Colchester United. Johnstone is one of a number of academy players at Old Trafford involved in the England youth set-up after making his U16 debut in 2008.

Excited

He told the club's official website: "I am excited and happy to be here, it's going to be a good experience for me and I can't wait to get going. "I spoke to Sir Alex Ferguson and he said 'go and enjoy it, it will be a good experience for you'. "It is a good amount of time for me to get games and get in the swing of things and become comfortable with people so hopefully I can impress. "I feel my distribution is good, I command my box well, and I've got good hands and decision making. We'll see how it goes. "The manager Alan Knill has said settle in well, do your best, come and enjoy it, and the more games I get the better it is for me which is true. "Hopefully I will get quite a lot of games and gain experience."
