Skysports.com understands League One side Exeter are poised to swoop for former Southampton midfielder Jake Thomson.
The 21-year-old Trinidad and Tobago international was released by the Saints at the end of last season after five years at the club and is now a free agent.
Thomson came through the ranks at St Mary's and after loan spells at Bournemouth and Torquay, was deemed surplus to requirements by manager Alan Pardew.
Any move would be subject to the player passing a medical and agreeing personal terms at St James Park, where the Grecians will be looking for a successful campaign in the third tier.
Last season the South Coast side finished 18th in the table and avoided relegation by just one point.
Thomson spent the majority of the campaign on loan at Torquay, but could only manage one goal in 18 appearances for the Gulls.
He made 16 appearances for the Southampton during his time at the club, and is ready to start afresh elsewhere.
