Saints midfielder to join on a month's loan

Torquay United have agreed a deal to sign Southampton midfielder Jake Thomson on a month-long loan. Thomson has made five substitute appearances for Alan Pardew's side this season and is now being allowed to link up with Torquay. The 20-year-old had a spell in League Two with Bournemouth last season and is joining the Gulls with a view to a longer-term arrangement. Meanwhile, Torquay's chief executive Colin Lee has expressed his delight at penning a new one-year rolling contract. Torquay-born Lee, 56, was a centre-forward for United, Tottenham and Chelsea in his playing days and a former manager of Wolves and Walsall. Lee said: "My contract was due to expire in May and I just wanted some assurances we - the club and I - were going to take the next steps forward together. "I think the term we have negotiated - a one-year rolling deal - safeguards the club and myself and obviously I am pleased to have sorted something out. "It is about continuity. We are going in the right direction here at the club. We won promotion on the field last season and we want to get it right off the field."
