Where does Jose Mourinho's future lie?

That was the question up for debate on this week's Revista, with Guillem Balague revealing that recent media reports have enhanced the belief that the former Chelsea boss will return to the Premier League next season.

"There are little stories in the Spanish, English and Italian press," said the Sky Sports pundit.

"(Italian paper) Gazzetta published that there was a text conversation between Mourinho, Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard where he was saying: 'We'll be together soon'.

"Meanwhile, a Sunday Times story said that if Tottenham was available he would be happy to go to that kind of team.

"This information comes from his entourage who are trying to say to big clubs in England that Jose Mourinho is available."

Balague added: "(Mourinho) says he is definitely leaving Real Madrid. That doesn't mean he will definitely leave but it does mean that he can go to a club like Manchester City; I think the whole thing is veering towards that.

"It is a win-win situation for him; he wins (La Liga) and decides whether he stays or goes."

Credibility

Meanwhile, Balague's fellow Revista expert Graham Hunter says the decision to exit Real Madrid will be taken out of Mourinho's hands if he fails to deliver silverware this term.

"It's patently clear that (Real president) Florentino Perez had vested a great deal of his credibility in Jose Mourinho," he said.

"If you're talking about Mourinho not having trophies by the end of the season, then why should there be any discussion?

"To blow this lead in the league, not to pick up the Copa and not fulfil their status as one of the favourites in the Champions League would mean there is absolutely no question that the club got it wrong and it was time to get rid of him."

Hunter concluded: "We often portray Jose Mourinho as having a higher agenda and a quicker brain than most people, but I think there is a simpler fact here - I think he has had enough of Spanish football.

"If the only card available to Mourinho was to stay he'd play it, but his whole intention is to get out and be Manchester City or Chelsea manager next season."
