Dutch midfielder star Kevin Strootman has been ruled out of the World Cup finals with a knee injury.
Strootman, who played a starring role in Holland's qualification, suffered the injury early in Roma's defeat to Napoli at the weekend.
Following scans it has been confirmed that he has damaged ligaments and is looking at a spell of at least six months on the sidelines.
"This is terrible for Kevin, I can imagine his whole world right now has just collapsed," said Dutch coach Louis van Gaal.
"This is a loss as Kevin made a very big contribution to our World Cup qualification for Brazil.
"This is the worst thing for Kevin."
