Cameroon head coach Paul Le Guen looks set to spring a few selection shocks in the World Cup Group E clash against Japan on Monday.
The Frenchman has indicated that Arsenal's Alex Song will not start versus the Japanese while Espanyol goalkeeper Carlos Kameni is also set to miss out.
Le Guen is said to have had a lengthy discussion with Song after an hour-long training session ahead of game at the Free State Stadium.
"We've had three weeks of hard training and I've had a better idea of my team now," he said in Durban on Saturday.
"Alexandre Song may not start the first match against Japan. This does not mean there is anything bad about him. He is a great player. It's just that I want to start the tournament with the most competitive team."
The 36-year-old Hamidou Souleymanou, meanwhile, looks poised to be named as his first-choice goalkeeper, despite Kameni being Cameroon's undisputed No.1 over the last seven years.
Of the meeting with Japan, Le Guen concluded: "I have watched many videos of Japanese football over and over and I know their strongest weapon is that they have very swift attackers.
"We've worked very hard to deal with that and as concerns Monday's match, I'm full of confidence."
