Denmark manager Morten Olsen has seen his World Cup plans dealt a blow after midfielder Leon Andreasen ruled himself out of the competition.
The 27-year-old told Olsen on Thursday that he would be undergoing surgery next week on a leg injury, meaning he will miss the June showpiece.
Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet said the Danish coach would struggle to find cover for the Hanover 96 player, who has a chequered injury record.
Andreasen has struggled with groin and thigh injuries in the past with the latest set back restricted his chances of adding to his 15 existing caps for the country.
Bladet quoted Olsen saying: "It was not unexpected but we had hoped that he would be able to make it."
