South Africa defender Morgan Gould is struggling to recover from an ankle injury in time for the World Cup.
The 27-year-old sustained the problem in February while playing for Supersport United in a league match against Bidvest Wits.
He has yet to regain fitness and his club manager Gavin Hunt does not expect him to play a part in this summer's tournament.
"He won't play," Hunt told Football365.co.za. "I would love to see him play in the World Cup, but I don't think he will make the squad.
"It's unfortunate but it (his return) is still too far away and I hope he can make the World Cup squad to prove me wrong.
"We need him back fit and strong but I don't think he will make the World Cup squad."
