New York City FC have dropped a major hint that they will be signing Andrea Pirlo by publishing his player profile on their website.

Pirlo has been linked with a move to the MLS franchise in recent months and he was in attendance for their New York derby clash with the Red Bulls last weekend.

The profile of the Juventus midfielder was swiftly deleted but not before it was circulated on social media and reported in the New York Post among other sources.

It included a picture of 36-year-old Pirlo in the NYCFC light blue kit and a short bio, with added blank space for his season stats from the MLS.

The league is yet to comment on the possible arrival of Pirlo, who would become New York City's third Designated Player after Spanish great David Villa and former Chelsea and Manchester City midfielder Frank Lampard.

Pirlo’s decorated career includes a World Cup title in 2006, three European Championship appearances, six Serie A titles, two Champions League crowns and two appearances at the Olympics.

He was called into the Italian national team squad as recently as last October and scored five goals in 31 appearances for Juventus across all competitions last season.
