Bradley Wright-Phillips' injury-time goal earned the New York Red Bulls a 2-2 draw at home to Toronto FC.

Tim Cahill, a 78th-minute substitute following his return from the World Cup with Australia, set up the dramatic finish by flicking a header into the six-yard box and former Southampton and Charlton striker Wright-Phillips scored his MLS-leading 12th goal of the season with a left-footed finish past goalkeeper Joe Bendik.

New York opened the scoring when Peguy Luyindula headed home into the right corner in the 36th minute from Ambroise Oyongo Bitolo's cross.

Toronto levelled in the 55th minute thanks to Jermain Defoe's clever finish from six yards, the former Tottenham forward’s fifth goal in his last five games.

The visitors then took a 2-1 lead when Gilberto rocketed in a free-kick in the 72nd minute, after coming on as a sub seven minutes earlier, but Wright-Phillips had the final word.

Meanwhile, Sporting Kansas City temporarily moved top of the MLS Eastern Conference after securing a 1-0 win at the Portland Timbers.

Lawrence Olum's strike after 24 minutes was the difference between the two sides as Kansas went level on points with DC United, who play the Seattle Sounders on Saturday evening.
