The MLS returned from its mid-season break for the World Cup with more of a whimper than a bang on Wednesday.

Carl Robinson's Vancouver Whitecaps played out a 0-0 draw at home to Montreal Impact to resume the action.

The only real drama at BC Place came in the closing quarter of an hour. Impact defender Maxim Tissot hit the crossbar with a looping effort, while at the other end Whitecaps left-back Jordan Harvey also crashed a shot off the woodwork.

There was then still time for Montreal striker Jack McInerney to head an effort against the post.

The Whitecaps remain third in the Western Conference, with their opponents rooted to the bottom of the East.
