Rangers have said they will ‘co-operate fully’ with any investigations into Sunday night’s events at Motherwell.
The play-off final second leg ended in chaotic scenes after a confrontation between Rangers substitute Bilel Mohsni and Motherwell’s Lee Erwin sparked a mass brawl.
Police Scotland have confirmed they will investigate the incident which saw three players sent off after the final whistle – Mohsni, Erwin and a second Well player, Fraser Kerr.
Erwin claimed the confrontation occurred because Mohsni refused to shake hands and swore at him following Motherwell’s 6-1 aggregate play-off victory.
Home supporters also invaded the pitch to celebrate their Premiership survival and some taunted the Rangers fans.
A statement on the Rangers official site said: “Rangers Football Club will co-operate fully with investigations following the disgraceful scenes at the Motherwell game yesterday.
“Bilel Mohsni’s behaviour was completely unacceptable and had his contract not now expired, the Club would have started disciplinary proceedings.
“The Club will also assist with any investigation into the behaviour of Motherwell supporters and we would like to thank the Rangers fans who were excellent in showing admirable restraint despite severe provocation.”
