Swansea boss Garry Monk has released several players including defender Alan Tate and goalkeeper Gerhard Tremmel.

Tate played a key role in the Swans' rise through the divisions, including the game that secured their Football League status in 2003 while on loan from Manchester United.

The 32-year-old signed permanently in 2004 and helped Swansea to promotions in 2005, 2008 and 2011 but has seen his role diminish in recent seasons, having loan spells at Leeds, Yeovil, Aberdeen and Crewe.

German goalkeeper Tremmel joined Swansea in 2011 from Red Bull Salzburg and has served as back up to Michel Vorm and Lukasz Fabianski during his time in South Wales, but started when the club won the Capital One Cup in 2013.

"I'm sorry to go, but I've loved every minute of it," Tate told the club's website.

"It goes without saying that I'd like to thank everyone for making my time at Swansea so special - from the club, staff, players, supporters and the city as a whole.

"I'm pleased to have helped the club go from strength to strength since that game against Hull way back in 2003."

He added: "There are probably a lot better footballers than me who have worn the Swans shirt over the years, but I'd like to think that there have been few who have tried harder.

"The fans have been superb and I've found over the years that if they can see you giving 100 per cent then that's good enough for them.

"I'm leaving a fantastic club with my head held high - and I'll always be proud of that."

Fellow goalkeeper David Cornell has also been released along with Rory Donnelly, Tom Atyeo, Corey Francis, Giancarlo Gallifuoco, Joseph Jones, Kurtis March, Gareth Owen, Scott Tancock and Curtis Obeng.
