Lewis Cook has committed his future to Leeds by agreeing a new two-year contract at Elland Road.

The 18-year-old Academy graduate has extended his stay at the club until at least summer 2017.

Cook was awarded the club's young player of the season award after breaking into the first team, featuring 38 times in all competitions, after making his debut on the opening day.

The York-born, home-grown midfielder won the 2014 European Championship with England U17s, going on to represent his country at U19s level this campaign.

He was also honoured at the Football League awards by winning the Sky Bet Championship's LFE Apprentice of the Year prize.

"I’m over the moon, all the hard work this season has paid off I think," said the teenager. "I’m delighted to sign with Leeds United, I’ve really enjoyed this last season.

"It’s been a whirlwind for me, I would never have dreamt it. I never thought I would have played as many games as I did. "I’ve really enjoyed it."

Chairman Massimo Cellino said: “Lewis Cook deserves his new contract, he was one of the most exciting players last season.

“I knew we had a wonderful talent when I first saw him in the summer. At first, I thought he was much older than he was. He plays like he has lots of experience.

“My hope is for him to stay at Leeds for a long time and continue growing with Mowatt, Byram, Taylor and the others. We don’t want to sell.

“My plan for this club is to grow, not to sell our best young players."
