Wrexham have sacked boss Kevin Wilkin just a day after losing the FA Trophy final at Wembley.

The Football Conference side are 15th in the table and lost out in a sudden death penalty shoot-out to North Ferriby United on Sunday.

Carl Darlington and Gary Mills have been put in charge of first team affairs with support from Michael Oakes with the club stating further announcements would be forthcoming.

A club statement read: "Everyone would like to thank Kevin for his endeavours during his time at the Wrexham FC, in particular reaching both the FA Trophy Final and the third round of the FA Cup this season and his focus on developing links with the community.

"This was an incredibly difficult decision but despite our cup successes our main priority is promotion back to the Football League and we have not made the progress expected towards that aim.

"We have therefore made the difficult decision that a change is needed."
