Roma manager Rudi Garcia has urged his side to forget Monday 2-0 defeat to Sampdoria at the Stadio Olimpico.

Goals from Lorenzo De Silvestri and Luis Muriel sealed Roma's fate and the defeat has all-but ended their chances of beating Juventus to the Serie A title.

The league leaders are 14 points clear of Garcia's side – who had Seydou Keita sent off against in the defeat – and they have shown little proof that they can close the gap.

The Giallorossi have picked up just two wins from their last 12 games and are now just a point ahead of third-placed Lazio and four clear of Napoli with 11 matches left, but Garcia insists his side are still playing good football.

"If we're having these chances, it means we're playing well enough to create them," Garcia said.

"Today's defeat means we have more sides closing in on us and we have to make up the points we dropped tonight next Sunday.

"As I said, we carved out lots of chances in the opening 45 minutes today, exploiting the space behind the defence with our runs.

"Then at 2-0 down, with 10 men, the fatigue started to set in. We need to look forward, get over this defeat.

"Of course you expect a lot from talented players, and we've got talented players. They're the guys who win games for you when the chances present themselves."

Garcia's side have struggled to find the net and in their last nine league matches they have only scored more than one goal once.

Fiorentina are up next in the Europa League on Thursday night and, with the tie finely balanced after the sides drew 1-1 in Florence, Garcia demanded his side focus on reaching the last-eight.

"For now our only concern is beating Fiorentina and getting through to the next round," Garcia added.

"We need to look forward, get over this defeat and try to go through against Fiorentina on Thursday - also because we'll be playing at home.

"We'll think about Serie A again after this Europa League match."
