Stewart Regan hopes some order will be restored to Rangers after Friday's EGM

Scottish Football Association chief executive Stewart Regan believes it is imperative that collective harmony is restored at Rangers.

Prospective Rangers chairman Dave King has jetted into Glasgow ahead of Friday’s Extraordinary General Meeting at Ibrox where he is expected to claim victory when shareholders vote to elect a board.

On Wednesday, Rangers confirmed they have begun the process of drawing down a second £5m loan from Sports Direct, meaning the company owned by Mike Ashley will be owed a total of £10m.

The club’s nominated adviser WH Ireland also resigned on Wednesday leading to the club’s suspension from the Stock Exchange.

Regan refused to be drawn on the latest issues regarding Rangers’ complicated financial situation but insists the club needs stability for the sake of their long-suffering supporters.

“We’re part way through a process which involves a meeting tomorrow,” Regan said. “We’re talking about a PLC and matters affecting a PLC so I don’t think it’s appropriate for me to comment on those sorts of corporate affairs.

“In the event there are changes tomorrow it will be up to the club to make representations to the Scottish FA and we will deal with it as and when that happens.

“For Rangers fans in particular and for all of those that are watching what’s gone on over the last three years, I think it’s important that there is stability and harmony, and that whoever leads Rangers can actually get on with doing that and try and get the club back into some kind of positive shape again.”
