On loan Peterborough striker Aaron McLean may not be able to play against parent club Bradford City this weekend, but he can coach against them.

The 31-year-old is currently assisting caretaker-manager Dave Robertson to prepare the team for Saturday’s League One game at London Road.

Academy manager Robertson, inexperienced in first-team football, has temporarily succeeded Darren Ferguson, who was sacked following last weekend’s 3-0 defeat at MK Dons.

McLean will therefore help coach his teammates to beat the club that holds his contract, along with another former Posh player Grant McCann.

Former Hull forward McLean was an unused substitute at Stadium:MK and he has only scored once in 15 appearances since joining on loan last November.

Peterborough are 15th in the third tier – eight points above the relegation zone – and McLean told the local paper this week he was “pleased to be asked to help out”.

He told the Peterborough Telegraph: “I will try and set the right example in games and on the training pitch.

“I’ve known Dave Robertson for a long time and the thing that first struck me about him was his passion for the game. He’s a real enthusiast, a really positive person, but he’s also a top coach.

“The penny will now drop as to what it means to play for Peterborough United. They are playing for a special club whose fans deserve the best.”
