Rotherham boss Steve Evans has distanced himself from speculation linking him with the vacant managerial position at Peterborough, insisting fans "should not be concerned".

Evans, who has led the Millers from League Two to the Championship in two years, is among the favourites to replace Darren Ferguson at London Road following his sacking on Saturday.

The Scot has a family home just outside Peterborough and admits to having a good relationship with the board of directors.

It is not the first time he has been linked with a move away from the AESSEAL New York Stadium after the club rejected an approach from Sheffield Wednesday in 2013 while he was also reported to be top of Leyton Orient's shortlist before Christmas.

But Evans insists he knows nothing of Posh's reported interest and has not heard from anyone at the club.

He said: "Wasn't I a favourite for Sheffield Wednesday, wasn't I a favourite a few weeks ago for Leyton Orient?

"I know nothing about it, my phone started going crazy [on Sunday night], I know nothing about it, I am focused on the job here, my only thoughts are on Watford on Tuesday night.

"I understand where the speculation comes from, I have a good relationship with the chairman there and a good relationship with Barry Fry.

"I have an excellent relationship with Darren Ferguson and he has lost his job, so out of respect it wouldn't be fitting for me to make any other comments other than I know nothing about it."

Despite keeping distance from the speculation, Evans refused to rule out a move to London Road should an official approach follow, though hinted he is content working for chairman Tony Stewart at the Millers.

"I can't deal with what ifs. What if Celtic come for me? It doesn't mean I'd go," he added. "All I can say is that I work for a great man, fact.

"He's not just my chairman and boss but he is probably one of my best friends.

"I am not so sure there will be an approach like everyone seems to think but if there is I'm sure the chairman and I will deal with that appropriately.

"Our fans should have no need to be concerned. I have got a job to do here, I am under contract here, I live in the town and I give it everything I have got.

"The rumours could be anything. It could be somebody on an internet forum that makes up rumours.

"That board of directors might want to go in a different direction. I'm just saying I have got a fantastic job at a fantastic club, I work for a great man, represent the most passionate and wonderful supporters and there's not many managers who wouldn't want to be part of that."
