MacKenzie: League takes priority

Bradford's new loan signing Gary MacKenzie said a promotion push must take priority over the club's giant-killing FA Cup run.

The 29-year-old Blackpool defender, a deadline-day arrival until the end of the season, is eligible for Bradford's fifth-round tie against Sunderland a week on Sunday as they look to follow up their FA Cup heroics at Chelsea. But the former Dundee and MK Dons centre-half, fully recovered from an Achilles injury that has prevented him from appearing this season, will be targeting the play-offs. "Bradford did amazingly down at Chelsea and that sort of thing does draw your attention to it," MacKenzie told the club's official website. "It would be nice to play my part in (the FA Cup) if I can, but I know that the league is important to us as well. "I have some good experience of playing at this level and it is a good division. There are a lot of big teams and good players in this division. "I know that this is the bread and butter for this club - to try and get up the league. "There are a lot of games left and places in the play-offs to play for. "The cup is a nice bonus and it gives everyone a lift, but the main focus has to be to look upwards in the league."
